UPDATES *at 3rd February 2008
Greetings everyone,
READ THIS IF YOU ARE PART OF, OR WANT TO BE PART OF JUMP START 2008
As you will know, Jump Start is looming. Only a couple of weeks to go !
Behind the scenes we have been very busy in coordinating this years event. The RNZAF Hercules is “tasked” and so all confirmed for Jump Start 2008.
———-
DO YOU WANT TO JUMP THE C130 HERCULES ?
The deal is that if you sponsor a student to do a tandem ($300), you are in with a chance to jump too, or ride as an observer if you are a non skydiver. You won’t be able to jump out of the Herc unless you are part of the tandem/camera team donating your services to the event, OR unless you have sponsored a teenager. Note: this year that fundraisers do not have to be skydivers. Slots will be prioritized in order of highest funds raised. A top fundraiser or non-skydiver could secure a slot as an observer !
HERE IS A LISTING OF THOSE IN WITH A CHANCE TO JUMP THE HERC
———-
FUNDRAISING TO SECURE YOUR SLOT ON THE HERC
You don’t have to donate all the money from your own pocket. This year we have set up a new fundraise web page to assist you with raising the donations. We’ve provided you the tools to make it easy. Once you have set up a fundraise web page, email your friends, family, employers and colleagues the link to your fundraising page – in fact, email it to anyone you know who might like to donate to Jump Start.

Why is Jump Start billed as ‘the experience of being alive’?
Skydivers are fond of saying that they never think about worries or work (unless it happens to be skydiving) when they are exiting a plane. Even after hundreds of jumps, the excitement of that moment remains strong enough to be fully present.
Stories from Jump Start 2007
Jump Start is looming ! Now only a month out from the 2008 event. On the 16th February 2008, 50 couragous teenagers selected through Project K & Canteen, will get to feel the experience of being alive ! Please help us to make this event a success for the kids….
Here’s a few quotes from last years participants -
‘Thank you so much. Tom had the time of his life. You only dream of something like that. He couldn’t stop talking about the jump. Thank you for making a wish come true for him’ (Thomas)

It was wow! First I met my tandem master, you should have seen…..it was gigantic…..it was a Hercules!…..BIG!! First we had to suit up in these overalls - that was all checked when we put the harness on….did a bit of modeling then had to walk onto the plane – BIG!! Then it was my turn to jump – my tandem master yelled “Just step out!!” “Hell NO!” “Then lift up your feet”. Next minute we were upside down, in the sky, then the right way round. It was well…yeah… I can’t describe it. He had to move my hands and show me the camera-man “ME!!” It was cool…you should try it. It felt like my face was trying to leave my head, then the parachute went up and we left the cameraman behind then it was a fast trip to the ground and then he said “Lift your legs” and THUMP sliding on my bum –back to earth. Yep you need to try it.

Jump Start 2008 - Invitation to the skydiving event of 2008
In March 2007, over the blue skies of Matamata, 50 teenagers achieved a milestone in their lives and earned a place in New Zealand History as the first civilians to skydive from an RNZAF Hercules. JUMP START created the opportunity for a select group of Teenagers, from CanTeen and Project K, to experience a tandem skydive that day.
JUMP START is a charity event which asks the skydiving community to help raise money to sponsor selected teenagers to challenge themselves and experience something truly unique. The Tandem Masters, Skydivers, Camera men and the RNZAF all donated their time, resources and aircraft to the event. The event was an astounding success, and deeply affected the lives of all involved that day. On Saturday 16th February 2008 at Whenuapai Airbase, Auckland, JUMP START is on again and we’d love you to be involved. Read more
